Non-HID bluetooth keyboards working!
January 12th, 2006
I am writing from a HP Bluetooth foldable keyboard with my Nokia 770, and it works like a charm!
I only followed the instructions given in this page.
Just download this file, take a loot at the README file, execute hcitool scan to find out the hardware address of your keyboard, fill in the configuration file, execute the script in the package and all is done!
If you manage to get work other keyboards, please leave a comment with your keyboard model.
Take a look at some photos of me writing with the keyboard on the Nokia 770.

[…] Maybe you want to know how to add the swap options, set up your bluetooth keyboard, or install the SSH server and set up an ad-hoc network between your computer and the Nokia 770. […]

How about the alt-gr keys? I have problems with the mine, a smarbt, to get the pipe and the tilde symbols. And what about accents? fine?

Well, alt-gr does not work. When I press alt-gr I obatin セ.
And about accents, my keyboard is english and to write an accent you must press alt-gr + d. So I am afraid that I can not ttest it

Well, the HP Bluetooth foldable keyboard works, but the porcedure is a little tricky.
All that I can tell you is try to get a HID keyboard. Non-HID like the HP also works, but with some black magic

Got an exact name for this “Smart Keyboard”
or more details, model no etc for the HP keyboard ?
There are a good few on ebay, don’t want to get one that’s not compatible. What the battery life like using the bluetooth keyboard, both on the 770 and the kayboard itself ?

The HP keyboard is called “HP foldable keyboard”. It is intended to be used with an IPAQ pocket pc.
Anyhow, you can get any keyboard to work, If it is HID, it is straightforward. If it is not, it is a little more tricky (follow the instructions in this post).
I have not tested the battery life using the keyboard, but I think it will be more time than using the wireless, because Bluetooth needs less power than wifi (that is, it will be more than 3 hours). The keyboard uses AA (normal size) batteries, and their life is long.

Hi,
sorry. Dumb little girl with nearly no linux knowledge wants to get her bluetooth keyboard working with her brand new nokia 770? Could you please provide an explaination for dummies? Do I need a linux PC ? HELP! PLEASE.

Hi,
no, you don’t need a Linux PC. I will try to write a more detailed explanation of how to get your keyboard to work with the 770. All I can say now is that it is quite probable no a straightforward procedure. Moreover, the procedure for the new OS version is different (actually, although I have the new version, I have not tried yet to use my BT keyboard). Which version do you have? Do you know if your keyboard is HID?

Actually I just installed the new (2006) OS.
I have a smart bluetooth keyboard. I think it is a HID (but it is somehow confusing).
Thank you in advance.
